Affirm - 2018 Executive Business Lunch

1 May 2018

Affirm – the Australian Foundation for Mental Health Research - held its annual Executive Business Lunch on 1 May with a full house and a formidable guest list of those concerned and prepared to support what this organisation works towards with the topic to consider that “mental health in the workplace is everyone’s business” .

Guest speaker was Georgie Harman the CEO of Beyond Blue, with support and the occasional ‘value adding’ by the the previous incumbent Kate Carnell, and a comprehensive overview of the ways corporate and government entities should approach the issues around mental health and how best to achieve better support networks and empathetic conversations with those in need.

Among the current funding from Affirm to various projects is an evidence based mobile app developed by the ANU mental health experts and computer scientists to help ease OCD  (obsessive-compulsive disorders) with a five module format.

Affirm has also provided funding to back a project to screen students for suicide risk as well as help  with funding for more mental health researchers.

This foundation makes a difference across the board. It looks for innovative ways to raise funds, encourages local corporate partners to join them in many ways and is always keen to hear us all talk; about mental health in the workplace, in the home, with the young and with the elderly. Mental health has no boundaries and can and does affect so many in our community. So every dollar of support goes to keep this foundation at the cutting edge of research and results.
