Breast Cancer Network Australia Annual Lunch 2017 @ Gandel HallShare Event on Facebook Share Event on Twitter Share Event on LinkedIn
The annual lunch for the Breast Cancer Network Australia in Canberra was held at Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia, and again demonstrated just how valuable this support network is for those who’ve been affected by breast cancer.
Those it directly affects, the families it touches, volunteers who tirelessly provide support in a multitude of ways and the many who keep researching to find a cure are acknowledged and applauded at this nationally celebrated lunch, with for Canberra, former Governor General Dame Quentin Bryce and Katherine Greiner the guests of honour.
But the scourge continues and while survival rates are rising, the field of ‘pink ladies’ that represented those who’ve died in a tribute, particularly on this day, reminded us all that survival is precious and vigilance is essential.
Major sponsor for this lunch was again Konica Minolta, and my host for the event, Nanette Bak their ACT Branch Manager, played hostess to a great group of women with busy lives who happily join the hundreds who make this a must attend event every year. We buy up the Focus on Furniture cushions to match the growing collection we’ve acquired over the years and purchase copious numbers of raffle tickets while catching up on the stories. Those newly diagnosed, those on the roller coaster of chemo, radiation and reconstruction and those who’ve ‘been there done that’ and give back with support and positive attitudes.
BCNA is an organisation that epitomises the power and resilience of women. Their determination, attitude and formidable power as a group defined by breast cancer but never letting it diminish their resolve to beat it, is a credit to so many.
