Mid Winter Ball 2016 - Sponsors Cocktail Party.

31 August 2016

The glam event for the house on the hill is the annual Mid Winter Ball. And with the 17th in its current incarnation this one was a little different to the past shindigs as it was delayed until the world’s longest election campaign and lengthy hiatus between the polls closing and the parliament getting back to work made it almost a spring ball. Instead it was the last day of winter ball and the fresh faced ready to rule and those opposing pollies ventured back after missing winter altogether.

For the Parliamentary Press Gallery the master of production at BDW Special Events Paul Donohue again pulled together a production to celebrate a new beginning for the 45th parliament with the most important aspect, the sponsors who make it all possible – passing round the hat amongst the gallery not an option in the financing – and the pollies who love a chance to flog themselves off in the name of a bunch of good causes conjuring up a variety of events where guests could be ‘entertained’ in their company. The stand out for that was Julie Bishop’s Two Unforgettable Nights in Hollywood with an intimate dinner, VIP seats for the G’Day USA Gala and Qantas flying the lucky two in business class.

To thank the sponsors for their generosity a pre ball cocktail party is held in the Great Hall and the mix and mingle brings together an eclectic mix of the big end of town with the media, the committee who make it come together and this year some who will benefit from the fundraising. This year the list is a diverse mix with Orange Sky Laundry, the world’s first free mobile laundry for the homeless, Look Good Feel Good, a free national service for cancer patients post chemo and radiation, The Big Issue, The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, Companion House and Oz Harvest among what has been over the years a very thoughtful disbursement of $3 million dollars.

And then it was time for the real party to begin.........
