The Diplomatic Club 5th Anniversary Drinks

15 April 2015

There is a Canberra Diplomatic Club, organised by diplomats from local embassies to make the most of networking opportunities and establish advantageous connections. And while the art of diplomacy is a skill well learned if you have a hankering for a career in Foreign Affairs, this club is about the socialising and connecting of clubbers to and with a wide range of locals particularly in government departments where a little bit of diplomacy, a lot of networking and language skills to boot will hold members in good stead.

The club is five years old and a party to celebrate the milestone had a bevy of thirty somethings getting amongst the raffles for prizes donated by many local embassies and chilling to the folk music of PJ Michael and Friends.
New to the Canberra scene was Pamela Gomez from Chile so we helped with connections, and enjoying a secondment from the New Zealand High Commission to Foreign Affairs was Lucy Coghill who brought along her DEFAT friends while the organizers Paola Lasso-Corredor from the Embassy of Colombia and Ece Gilmat from the Embassy of Turkey kept the guests circulating and the introductions made while the very charming Ivana Damjanovic who decided to make Australia home after her posting to the Embassy of Croatia and has just completed her law studies will be moving to Melbourne to join her husband. That's what being a diplomat is often about....saying hello and sooner than you think waving goodbye.
